It is acknowledged that the experience people have during their first few days, weeks and months as an employee has a direct impact on their long term performance and commitment to a company and all finalists for this category were selected because of the work they are doing to ensure they welcome people to their company in the best way possible and get the best out of their employees from the very start.  The judges were impressed by Centrica’s  flexibility of solution and with it’s easy engagement via social media and had “thought of everything”.  An excellent job of making the on-boarding experience personal or tailored to the individual, regardless of pay grade.  One judge said “I tried to find fault, but I couldn’t – a brilliant project, excellently delivered and executed with huge benefits”.

Best Apprentice/School Leaver Recruitment Strategy

Comments from the judges included – The marketing and attraction of the apprentices stood out in the ITV approach as both innovative, but also relevant to the target audience. They have clearly demonstrated to the judging panel the Cost savings they have made by implementing the programme, which was a clear objective of the programme. The breadth of skills they offer to train is very impressive and although Technology plays a key role in all entries, ITV showed the apprentice scheme was for all departments.   The judges were also impressed that apprentices are given current apprentice buddies and not only trusted but encouraged to use Twitter with the #ITVApprentice hash tag

The Judges really loved the energy of the marketing on this campaign; it showed excellent examples of innovative viral marketing and social engagement and felt that it showed a good understanding of the target audience with plenty of competitions, giveaways and branding.  In addition they particularly liked the self-selection methods via persona cards and how they would reduce drop outs or wrongly align aspirations, skills and careers.  The judges also felt that the entry provided a great insight into life at Deloitte giving everyone who had an interest a real feel for what could be achieved what working at Deloitte means.

Another close run award that gave the judges a challenge however they felt  that the scope of the project, having to address issues on a global scale and appeal to a complex matrix of internal stakeholders and potential employees in multiple regions and cultures, with an excellent internal engagement and communication strategy gave it a distinct edge.    Congratulations Mars UK

The Judges were excited by all of the entries in this category but selected the Co-op because it was obvious that they had created something that they honestly believed in.  They created and highlighted their Candidate Promise, they reinforced it and what it meant internally and then delivered upon it to the candidate. The judges we impressed by the detail, the quality as well as the openness and honesty of the communication at each step of the application and assessment processes ensuring feedback was timely and honest to all applicants, this was clearly reflected in the surveys they conduct of both successful and unsuccessful candidates. The Judges agreed that the Mars Tweet Shop campaign was truly innovative pushing the boundaries of social media, candidate engagement and employer branding and taking candidate attraction to new territories.  The entry was clear what the impact of this campaign was and was able demonstrate its success and how it has directly positively impacted Mars’ credibility as an employer of choice externally.  Other words used to describe Tweet Shop ….”Very clever concept” …………..”amazing impact” …………..”nice execution” .  Congratulations to Mars UK.

The judges would also like to congratulate and give a special mention to Boots supported by Andsome and to Barclays RBB supported by Alexander Mann Solutions for two outstanding entries that also showed the willingness to try something new and to show a good return to the business.


Best Recruitment Advertising Campaign or Strategy

The judges were not only impressed by the creativity of the campaign but how Barclays RBB also used detailed market segment and demographic research to help them target their campaign and to understand what impact it might have to their different target audiences in both Liverpool and Sunderland.  The entry clearly showed the costs as well as the significant savings the campaign made to Project Cotton as well as achieving the overall hiring and objective set by the Bank. The Judges have said that the entry from ITV was a great submission and example of true operational transformation and a shift in thinking and culture with a mix of complex changes, simple initiatives, outstanding communication and good leadership.
